Posts: 208 11/14/03 11:26:19 IAAPA BBS FIXTURE	I'm christhecat at SourceForge and ChrisTheCat at IAAPA and AAMC. I've never played on the Zone - I had the CD but gave it to a friend. I've played in the A&A tournament at GenCon the last two years (with a notable lack of success). I've been playing A&A in-person for about six years but am new to A&A PBeM. I play quite a bit of Galaxy. I used to hang out on the ConsimWorld forums but I hardly ever drop in there anymore. I used to be an active Alpha Centauri player, but gave that up a few years ago. I've been playing PBM since before they added the "e" - I have fond memories of writing up turns for Squad Leader and Blitzkrieg and posting them in the mail in the 1970s... p.s. when I registered for EZBoard, ChrisTheCat was already taken !! so I chose CatChris instead.

This new game is NEW, so we'll see if it has a place in IAAPA, and what needs to be done to make it work for us. Sounds like an entirely new product, with some rules changes/updates, and even a revamped map. I don't think that the new game is going to have any difference on the current version played, as my impression is that it's going to be a very different game (more than just a couple minor changes). As such, 2nd edition rules will probably stay the same, and if demand warrants, we would open up a second db for the new version. Eric

Posts: 534 11/21/03 11:09:18	Ahhh, indeed. Should it prove to be "a new game," then that is another thing entirely. I went to the thread above and read through a few of the posted comments. One individual noted that if it was nothing more than updated third edition rules, then he'd be disappointed. Sounds like this individual wants "a new game." Personally, I do not. Just a little polishing on the one we've got. I liked the indication that the makers have put some more detail into the playing pieces. Kinda cool. Though I simultaneously lament the expense I went through buying scale models for the monster board. Perhaps I'll put it up on E-Bay. (Any takers?) Really, my question is hypothetical. Rephrased, is there a point at which, (working from the premise that there will be fourth and subsequent edition rules changes/clarifications), our present rules set is no longer considered the 'preferred status quo' but an artifact of how a game was once played. Again, hypothetical and speculative. Probably shouldn't be responded to as in any case, the fact remains that we will have to wait and see what this new "addition" actually presents. further musings of a mad man... Shen Fung

I am enthusiastic and look forward to the 'fourth' edition rules, hoepfully to remove and enhance upon the flaws and foibles of 2nd and 3rd ed. rules. Is the idealized A&A game on the way? Will it prove that designers of such games as The Great War, East and West, World at War, and Crucible (among others) are on the right track and 5+ years ahead of Larry Harris?
