For a sea battle involving SUBs can a defender choose which attacker hit.

This is the battle:
4 FTR 1 SUB vs 1 BB 1 TRN 1 SUB
SUB missed and attacker FTR hit 3 and defender hit 3

Defender says that the TRN hit SUB and therefore SUB can not fire at a FTR and SZ is cleared by 3 FTR

My thoughts were that SUB would have hit SUB and TRN BB hit 2 FTR and SZ cleared by 2 FTR

Let me know.
